NordClass was established in 1987 to represent the Nordic countries in activities related to International Classification of Diseases (ICD).
The Secretariat of NordClass is hosted by the
Department of Classifications in Health Care in the Norwegian Directorate of eHealth (NDE), located in Oslo, Norway.
The Centre collaborates with the classification and statistical units/departments in all the Nordic countries, as well as with the Casemix Centre in Helsinki, Finland and with NOMESCO, Copenhagen, Denmark.
NordClass actively promotes the development and use of ICD, ICF and other derived or related classifications in the Nordic and, in some cases, Baltic countries. The Centre also supports other related acitivities within the WHO-FIC Network.
Funding and organisation
As of January 2017, NordClass is financed through 4-year grants funded by the national health authorities in Denmark, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
The Centre is an independent body with its own budget and board. The Head of Centre reports to the Board of the Centre, whose members are appointed by national health authorities in the four Nordic countries. The NordClass Board is currently chaired by Ms. Solvejg Bang (Denmark).
Since 2012, NordClass has been designated as a WHO Collaborating Centre for the Family of International Classifications in the Nordic countries.
